Creating Your Game Review Criteria Sheet
Reviews are made by people. You will make your own criteria for reviewing games.
There are three parts to this activity. After the three parts are completed, everyone will share their reviews with the group.
Part One
As a large group, you and the other learners will tell what you care about when playing games. State your areas on a brainstorm document assigned by your educator. Try not to use the categories already listed in the Game Evaluation activity.
Examples of some points you might list are:
- Are characters with different body types and abilities featured as main characters?
- Can the player understand what to do?
- Does my character have a mission or a problem to solve?
Part Two
Refer to the list of games played during the Guided Gameplay of Serious Games activity. Play one digital game.
Part Three
You will choose eight categories to use for your game review and share your game review with the group using a presentation tool.
To get eight categories, select four different categories that developers use to review games and four different categories from Part One of this activity.
Choose four categories from Game Evaluation:
- Real-World Application
- Graphics/Art
- Repeatability
- Difficulty Level
- Ease of Use
- Player Choice
- Diversity
- Accessibility
Choose four new categories from Part One.
In the table below:
- State the game title
- List the eight categories you selected in the first column.
- In the second column, describe your review of the game for each category.
- Also include if you found any bugs, typos, mistakes, or other errors and if you do or do not recommend this game to a friend

After you complete this review, put your categories and descriptions together in a presentation software. Your presentation should include:
- Your name
- A brief overview of the game (audience, content, context, goal)
- Eight categories for game review (with at least half of them new categories)
- Any bugs or mistakes you found in the game
- If you do or do not recommend the game to a friend
