Game Idea and Prototype Pitch Fundamentals
What do you need to communicate in your pitch?
Make a presentation deck using presentation software (i.e. Keynote, PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.). You will likely have 10-15 slides. You will probably have one slide for each of the items bolded below. Plan on your pitch being 5-10 minutes, including questions.
The Essentials:
- What is the change you want to make?
“To make the lives of teenagers better, we want to make a game that _________________________.”
Who is the player?
List the overall change and specific changes.
How will your player be transformed?
- Success Marker: How will you know if your game does what it is supposed to do? What can you observe in your game player to know if you’ve met your goal?
- What is the proposed environment for play? How long is the experience expected to take?
Game Specifics to Include:
- Name of the game
- Why this game deserves to be made:
- Convince us that this is a worthy effort. What makes your game unique?
- You may answer: Why is your game content or the way it is played significant? How is it different from other games, or other strategies for making this change?
- What is gameplay like? You might want to include things like:
- What is the player trying to do to win the game?
- How does the game end?
- What role does score or other game aspects play in your game design?
- Activities (could be 1-3 slides):
- Share 1-3 key activities that your player will do in the game?
- You may answer: Will players be exposed to information? Will players see strategies in practice? Will players practice? What kinds of emotions are the players feeling?
- What else will the game need? List some of the things you think would need to be developed:
- Marketing plan? How will users find out about the game?
- Discussion support guide?
- Instructional videos for teachers about how to use the game in class?
- Link to Marvel prototype on Keynote
- For prototype include: the title screen, sample characters, game play screen(s)
- After Keynote and prototype, close with: What would you need to take this to the next step?
- You may answer: If you were funded and approved, who else would you want to join you? What more would you want to learn? What would you want to learn about your target audience?
