Overview
Learners and educators collectively brainstorm what they can say to themselves to build confidence.
Essentials in the Activity
Along with preparing the content to share in their game pitch presentation, they need constructive self-talk that will help as they present. Learners brainstorm with peers words and phrases that can positively impact their emotional regulation and thoughts and emotions about the self. In doing this, the learners become more aware of internal phrases they and their peers say and affirming phrases that can be added.
Goals and Outcomes
Goal: Learners and educators generate a list of words and phrases to affirm themselves when they present information to an audience.
Outcomes: Learners discover different phases they can say to themselves or peers to build self-confidence. Learners identify and utilizes phrases and words they can include.
Materials
digital tool (e.g., Padlet, Mentimeter, Google Doc)
Preparation
Create a Padlet, Mentimeter or Google Doc or have a dry erase board with the title “What I say to myself to feel confident and courageous” at the top of either.
Implementation and Completion
Inform learners the collective will come up with phrases and words we can say to ourselves or each other to build confidence. As a large group, give them time to brainstorm responses to “What I tell other people?” and “What I tell myself?” to feel confident and courageous.
If using a digital tool, learners can add their own responses and then state each phrase and word generated. For a dry erase board, an educator can write the words and phrases as learners share their responses. Keep this board in an easy to display area.
Review the “words of confidence” the remainder of the session after community guidelines.
