For Game Review Pitch
Overview
Every pair/small group practices presenting their game pitch to the group.
Essentials in the Activity
Learners receive the initial impression of their prepared presentation from peers and educators. The features of the tools used to develop the game pitch allow learners to use different modalities to showcase their content. For peer groups, learners disseminate presentation roles among their groups and conduct their presentations. After each group presents, peers and educators ask clarifying questions and give constructive feedback to improve their presentations. This activity also further demonstrates the iterative process of design. To complete their presentation in time for practice, learners utilize task performance skills, critical thinking, self-management, and responsible decision-making. For those working in peer groups, they have to collaborate and use their relationship skills. As they gather feedback from peers and educators, learners enhance their social awareness.
Goals and Outcomes
Goal: Learners prepare for their game pitch by practicing introducing themselves, articulating their content, figuring out their speaking sequence, and testing their prototype and presentation.
Outcomes: Learners conduct a runthrough of their presentation, in which they make adjustments to their game pitch and practice their speech and presentation skills.
Materials
Choose if learners will present online or in-person. If online, select a video conferencing software. If in-person, use a projector and whiteboard/screen. In both cases, use presentation and other materials learners designed while completing Designing Presentation and Prototype activity.
Preparation
Complete prerequisites.
Implementation and Completion
Inform learners they will practice presenting their pitch to the group and receive feedback about what works well and what could be improved. Before each group presents, share information they should include at the beginning of their pitch (e.g., name, grade or age, etc.) and how they will present, such as format and presentation tool.
As groups present, check that the content and learners’ materials displayed as expected and they address information stated in the pitch essentials. After the pitch, give learners and educators time to provide feedback. It may be helpful to assign an educator to take notes on feedback as a reference point for each group to finalize their pitch.
